Boar’s Head Black Forest Ham – the Perfect Pairings

Showcasing three delicious pairings of how to serve Boar’s Head Black Forest Ham: sweet, spicy savory and the ultimate breakfast sandwich.

Happy Friday my friends! I can’t believe that next weekend I will be in Paris! I have plans to start packing this weekend and to sort out what outfits I must bring with me. But I am not going anywhere without sharing with you some amazing sandwiches I made with Boar’s Head black forest ham that we enjoyed this week.

Boar's Head black forest hamDo you guys love deli meat? As a full-time working family, me and my husband rely on it for quick lunch and dinners. But I always look for quality options and we were very happy to find out that our local A&P was caring Boar’s Head cold cut meats. I got a chance to try their SmokeMaster Black Forest Ham, and both me and my husband were blown away by the great taste and the quality of the meat.

Boar's Head black forest hamWe both love smoky food, and when we travel South we can’t get enough of the smoked ribs and pulled pork. But there is no way we would start making smoked meat in our two bedroom apartment in Jersey City, thats why we love so much the convenience of purchasing already smoked quality cold cuts that we can pair with our favorite foods to create amazing sandwiches or salads.

First, I am such a huge fan of pairing smoked cold cuts with something sweet, I just think the flavors compliment each other nicely, so one of my all time favorite pairings is: Boar’s Head black forest ham layered on soft pretzel bread, topped with Boar’s Head Pepper Jack cheese for a spicy kick and a hefty amount of homemade raspberry sauce. I also, usually like to pair smoked cold cuts with a creamy mayo sauce or spicy cheese.

Boar's Head black forest hamThis sandwich is the bomb, I am so in love with this pairing, sweet, spicy, smoked and savory!

The next one, it’s usually something that I call a salad sandwich, a quick pick me up when I need to fix an easy lunch. I have here again soft pretzel bread, peppery arugula, Boar’s Head black forest ham topped with Boar’s Head cajun style gourmaise and some creamy avocado. This is a milder pairing and more classic. The peppery arugula complements nicely the smoked black forest ham, the creamy mayo ties everything together and the avocado just makes everything even better.

Now lets move onto my husband’s favorite: the most amazing breakfast sandwich!

Boar's Head Black Forest HamIn my opinion this is the ultimate breakfast sandwich, forget the english muffin or that boring cereal, you need Boar’s Head black forest ham to make this amazing flavor pairing. I have here again soft pretzel bread because I am obsessed with it, and I think its sweetness pairs nicely with the smoked black forest ham. Now, the pretzel bread is topped with a generous amount of sliced Boar’s Head black forest ham and followed by sliced red bell peppers to add some crunchy and a change of texture. Now, the ham is topped with the cajun mayo I have mentioned above and a runny egg.

Boar's Head black forest hamOMG this is the sandwich of my dreams, I can never ever get bored of this combo. The black forest ham is key to get all these combinations right. Here is a very accurate description and statement about the ham from the company:

“Enjoy a flavor rarely experienced in America with our SmokeMaster Beechwood Smoked™ Black Forest Ham. Crafted with the finest ingredients and exceptional care, this ham is naturally smoked with imported German beechwood. The result, a ham with a delicious, distinct flavor that is rich and smooth.”

This is exactly how I feel about, it’s rich and smooth flavor shines on its own, but at the same time is mild enough to be paired with so many other delicious ingredients.
